Meet Carmen Schabracq
‘In some stories, the mother is a devouring creature, both destructive and creative at the same time.’
Carmen Schabracq makes paintings, sculptural installations, work on paper, ceramics, tapestries, costumes and performance. The mask is a recurring object and theme in her work, with which she explores the multiplicity of layers of identity. She is often inspired by folklore and art history from different cultures and times. Her work is characterised by the pronounced use of colour, tactility, craftsmanship and a feminist aspect.
