Sunburn explores the vulnerability of the full frontal male nude. The artist observes that while society celebrates muscular male bodies in the context of sports and bodybuilding, there is a stark contrast in how these bodies are perceived outside of those specific environments.
Schippers wants to question this discrepancy by presenting nude male figures with only their tan lines hinting at their athletic background as wrestlers. By removing the context of sport, he invites viewers to confront their perceptions of masculinity and vulnerability.
