The lives of South Asian people have been seen as less worthy since colonialism.
Be aware that this work represents the short life duration of my ancestors' worth in the eyes of colonisation.
For the Untitled series, Angel-Rose has collaborated with the Beeld & Geluid Foundation. The artist explored the archives of the previous channel, OHM (Organisatie Hindoe Media). The organisation that would highlight the Surinamese-Hindustani and South Asian cultures. Angel-Rose has continually drawn inspiration from 90s and 00s pop culture, despite its often whitewashed portrayal. The artist researched the archives of OHM to explore whether her adoration of pop culture was connected to her own heritage. With the Untitled series, the artist shows an homage to her heritage as a process of decolonisation. In past centuries, people of Surinamese-Hindustani descent would cultivate and sell rice to repurchase their freedom. Every untitled image refers to the unnamed identities that never gained enough momentum to be seen.
